Can Urgent Care Treat Animal Bites?

Project type

Animal Bite

Date

Sep 2026

Yes—we treat animal bites and scratches at Citrus Urgent Care. Dog bites, cat bites, and other animal injuries can become infected, even when the wound looks small.

Come in so our medical team can evaluate the injury, properly clean and care for the wound, and determine whether additional treatment is needed.

What to do right away: Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water, apply gentle pressure with clean gauze if it’s bleeding, and cover it with a clean bandage. Avoid closing a deep wound yourself with glue or tight bandaging.

Come see us promptly, especially for puncture wounds, bites to the hand or face, increasing redness or swelling, worsening pain, drainage, or concerns about infection or tetanus. Severe bleeding, extensive injuries, or certain possible rabies exposures may require emergency or specialized care.
